Ann Young

Ann Wilkinson Young, 73 of Conover passed away Sunday May 17, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born March 29th, 1942 she was the daughter of Elmer Hamn Wilkinson and Bertie Lee Smith Wilkinson. Ann was a wife and mother first. She had a special relationship with her grandchildren. Her friends and family meant the world to her. Her fun loving and artistic spirit will be missed by all who loved her. Ann graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Art. She taught school in Jacksonville, FL and Charlotte, NC. She was well known in her community for her clay figurines, especially her nativity scenes and santas. Ann was also an avid and competitive tennis player. Her loving husband of 45 years, Ron Young of the home; two daughters, Julie Young Harkins and husband Todd of Conover and Mindy Young Zimmerman and husband Nate of Charlotte; a brother, John Wilkinson of Marina Del Rey, CA; four grandchildren, Barrett Harkins, Logan Harkins, Olivia Zimmerman and Amelia Zimmerman survive her. The funeral will be 2:00 PM Wednesday May 20, 2015 at New Vision Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Les Wicker and Rev. Pam Strader, officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday May 19, 2015 at New Vision Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers will be Pat Smith, Ray Barnhardt, Fran Davis, Jim Wall, Tommy Goodin, Bobby Boyd, Bill Knox and Ronnie Hampton.
