Barbara Townsend

Barbara Ann Sipe Townsend, 69 of Conover went to her heavenly home to be with the Lord and reunite with her husband, Robert Lee Townsend of whom she was married more than 50 years. Born April 28, 1939, the daughter of the late Alvin Otto Sipe and Icie Diew Edwards Sipe, she was a home maker. A daughter Amanda and her husband Robert Wilson of Conover; a son, Tim and wife Sandy Townsend of Hickory; two sisters, Judy and husband Johnny Hefner of Hickory and Jeane Propst of Monroe; a very special family member; two brothers, Danny Sipe of Taylorsville and Richard Sipe of Charlotte; Four grand children, Michael, Tya, Christina and Matthew; a number of nieces and nephews and family friends survive her. Barbara was an active leader of Mt. Zion Cub Scout troop 235 and she was passionate about cooking for and taking care of her family. With all her heart, she adored her grand children. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Stevens officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Duke University School of Medicine, Anatomical Donations 905 W Main St, Durham, NC 27701.
