Bettie Sherrill

Bettie Jean Shuford Sherrill, 82 of N. Main Street Newton, died Tuesday September 8, 2009 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born April 29, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Harry Russell and Minnie Houser Shuford. A member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church, she was a homemaker who loved people and enjoyed helping her friends. She was a volunteer at CVMC for the last 10 years and throughout her life, enjoyed decorating cakes for birthdays, weddings and all occasions. Four sisters, Sue Kilby of Hickory, Elizabeth (John) Willis of Newton, Gladys (Gil) Campbell of Charlotte and Billie Gribble of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Rebecca Sherrill Speagle of Newton, Shelly Scronce of Newton, Angela Sherrill Rembert of Mars Hill and Timothy Howard Sherrill, Jr.; six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Her husband, Fred H. Sherrill, Jr.; a son, Timothy Howard Sherrill, Sr.; two brothers, Gordon Shuford and Harry Shuford preceded her in death. The funeral will be 5:00 pm Friday September 11, 2009 at the chapel of Jenkins Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Jane P. Mitcham officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Newton. The family will receive friends from 3:30-4:45 pm prior to the service Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley 3975 Robinson Rd.
