Betty Warren

June 9, 1920 — May 15, 2016

Very early on Sunday morning, May 15th, 2016, Betty Jane Warren left behind her two daughters, relatives, and numerous friends to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ. Another delight she undoubtedly experienced was to set her eyes upon her beloved Jack who had gone ahead many years earlier. Betty was born in Amsterdam, New York, June 9, 1920 to Hiland and Emma Shaddock. Her parents settled down in the little town of Canandaigua, New York where Betty would marry her high school love, Jack Warren. Shortly following their marriage, Jack would join millions of Americans in the epic struggle of World War II. Staff sergeant Jack Warren was a waist gunner on the B-24 Liberator bomber. He completed 300 combat hours in the China-India-Burma theatre. After the war, Jack and Betty settled in Canandaigua to raise their two daughters, Barbara Wilson of Granite Falls, NC and Beverly Hall of Conover, NC. Jack and Betty retired to Florida, which became a short experience for Betty due to her husband’s passing. She later moved to be near her daughters in Conover, NC. Betty created a massive trail of laughing, uplifted friends for years thereafter. It never took her long to make a stranger her friend. As Betty would roam, her daughters would be astounded with the familiar “Hi Betty” from anyone and anywhere. Betty resided at Pinecrest in Hickory, NC for ten years and lived her final two years under the wonderful care of Trinity Village, Hickory. Her bridge players will miss her along with the nursing staff that she cheered with her loving “wisecracks.” What a remarkable, unassuming creation of God she still is! As mentioned earlier, Betty is survived by her loving, devoted daughters, Barbara and Beverly. Barbara is married to Carl Wilson and Beverly to Roger Hall. Betty outlived her four siblings: Jack Shaddock, Ralston Shaddock, Doris Schreck, and Virginia Burrows. Her grandchildren are Abraya Johnson, Robbin Ramseur, Sabrina Whittington, Sid Becker, Bernd Becker, and Jacqueline Aaroz. Her great grandchildren are Chris Scott, Andrew Scott, Harrison Johnson, David Whittington, Lucette Johnson, Sarah Whittington, Jaiden Ramseur, and Sophia Hall. Her nephews are Bill Schreck, Ross Schreck, Hiley Shaddock, Jeff Shaddock, Jack Hopkins, and niece Susan Jeffery. Betty, your 95 years were adventurous and fruitful! We will miss you for now, and look forward to being with you in the heavenly kingdom. Betty’s memorial service will be held at Trinity Village, 1265 21 St NE, Hickory, NC in their chapel at 3:00 pm, Sunday, May 22nd. In lieu of flowers, please thank the beautiful Trinity Village staff and donate to Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton, NC 28658.
