Bonnie "Bea" Lee Punch Simmons, 85 of Newton died Thursday, March 24th, 2016 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Her dream came true when she went home to meet her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. Born December 8th, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Clinton Ray Punch and Metta Lucille Summers Punch. Heaven has gained the most amazing wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Bea enjoyed working with children and retired from Abernethy Day Care. She was a member of Starmount Baptist Church for over 20 years. She became a member of St. Paul's Reformed Church and enjoyed traveling with the "Young at Heart". Bea enjoyed working in her garden and canning green beans & tomatoes for her family. She was also a collector of bells. She loved her two granddaughters dearly and frequently spoke of how proud she was of them. Family was always a priority. She had a loving and caring heart and over the years, many became part of her extended family. She enjoyed playing Rook and always enjoyed setting the other team. She loved watching Elvis movies and listening to gospel music. Her husband of 54 years, Claude Pinkney Simmons of the home; a daughter, Robin Claudette Simmons Caldwell and husband Kevin of Newton; two sisters, Frances Louise Crouse of Newton and Margaret Ellen Punch Cuthrell of Newton; two brothers, Herbert Ernest Punch of Newton and Thomas Pinkney Punch of Newton; two grandchildren, Tori Caldwell and Kelsey Caldwell survive her. The funeral will be 2:00 pm Monday, March 28th, 2016 at St. Paul's Reformed Church with Pastor J. Keith Brown and Pastor J.D. Grasty officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers include Dennis Smith, Johnny Bentley, Allen Arrowood, Butch Hare, Ray Punch and Steve Punch. Honorary Pallbearers include Tim Crouse and Clint Hare. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 pm Monday, March 28th, 2016 at St Paul's Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Reformed Church 3562 Startown Road Newton 28658 or to Catawba Regional Hospice 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
