Carl Howard

Carl Thomas Howard passed away, October 9, 2022 at Atrium Health-NC Baptist Hospital. Carl was born in Melbourne, Florida on January 29, 1964 to the late Sam Harrell Howard and Mary Louise Raby Howard.

Carl was a part of the Backstreets Restaurant Family for over 18 years where he was a loved member of the kitchen staff. Carl had a passion for music, pro basketball and current events. He was an avid reader and enjoyed learning about all types of things. He loved people and was always up for a big hug!

He is survived by his sister, Nancy Bruce Schenk and husband John of Hickory, NC; brother, David Howard and wife Nikki of Hickory NC; nephews Matthew Bruce of Newport, NC; Luke Bruce and fiancé Crystal Martinez of Hickory, NC; Brandon Clark and wife Megan and their children, Tatum, Laney and Karter of Asheville, NC; Jackson Vazquez of Hickory, NC and Caleb Quackenbos of Hickory, NC and other family members and friends.

Carl was an organ donor and through his gift of life numerous families were given hope.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 13 at 4:00pm at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel, 4081 Startown Road, Newton NC 28658 with visitation following the service. The Rev. Jeff Lindsay will officiate. Backstreets Restaurant will hold a drop-in celebration of life for Carl on Sunday, October 16 from 2 to 5 pm at the restaurant located at 246 14th Avenue NE, Hickory NC.
