Caroline Keenan

Caroline Yount Keenan, 76, of Conover, NC died on May 6, 2024, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Her husband and daughter were by her side. Born in Newton, NC on June 7, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Paul D. Yount and Willie S. Yount. Caroline graduated from Newton-Conover High School, spent two years at Mitchell Community College, then transferred to Appalachian State Teacher’s College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Many of her years as a teacher were spent teaching fourth grade at Startown Elementary School. Caroline was married to Michael Keenan and they spent almost 55 years together. They have one daughter, Kelly Keenan Crowley.

Caroline was a lifelong member of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ in Newton, NC. She enjoyed working with the children’s ministry and attending bible studies during the week. She loved to shop at TJ Maxx and enjoyed going out to lunch with her friends and family. She spent many years volunteering at The Green Room Community Theater. She and Michael loved to visit Las Vegas together and spend sunny days on Carolina Beach.

Caroline is survived by her husband, Michael Keenan and daughter Kelly Keenan Crowley of Wilmington, NC (Paul) and her granddaughters Olivia and Nina Crowley. Additionally, she is survived by Michael’s sister Susan Keenan and her nieces Kathy-Jo Lindroth (Bjorn), and Paris Davis (Caleb) and her grand-nieces June Lindroth, Tilda Lindroth, and Raine Davis.

Caroline is preceded in death by her parents Paul and Willie Yount and her brother Steven Yount, as well as several aunts and uncles. A private graveside service will be held Wednesday with Pastor Ryan Brakemyer officiating. Caroline’s family will receive guests in the Fellowship Hall of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ on Wednesday, May 15 at 1:30pm with a memorial service in the Sanctuary at 2:30pm at Grace Reformed United Church of Christ at 117 East J St Newton, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Green Room Community Theater, Inc. PO Box 1317 Newton, NC 28658.
