Carolyn Sue Combs Taylor, 65 of Newton died Friday, August 22, 2014 unexpectedly at her residence. Born April 9th, 1949 she was the daughter of the late Claude Eddie Combs and Ollie Ruth Blackburn Combs. She was a 1967 graduate of Newton-Conover High School and a graduate of Catawba Hairstyling Academy and Lenoir Rhyne College. She was the owner of Head Hunters Salon in Hickory. She was active in the Newton-Conover Alumni Association and was a supporter of the Catawba County EMS and the Newton-Conover Rescue Squad. Her husband of 24 years, Gwyn "Slim" Taylor of the home; a daughter, Lauryn Taylor-Byerly and husband Andy of Mooresville; a step daughter, Lisa Taylor Norris and husband Mark of Granite Falls; brother Larry Combs and wife Frances of Newton; two sister-in-laws, Sarah Combs of Granite Falls and Reba Taylor Riley of Hudson; a brother-in-law, Jack Taylor of Hudson; a grandson, Grayson Cole Byerly, whom was the light of her light and best friend; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive her. A brother, Cecil Grant Combs preceded her in death. The funeral will be 4:00 pm Monday, August 25th, 2014 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Daughtry officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Newton. The family will receive friends from 3-4:00 p.m., Monday, August 25th, 2014 at the funeral home.
