Carolyn Underwood

Carolyn Simmons Underwood passed away peacefully on June 23rd, 2023 at Caring Carolina in Newton, North Carolina after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Carolyn was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Underwood, and her children, Randy Underwood and wife Beverly; Chad Underwood; and Lisa Averitte and husband Richard. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Erica Isenhour and husband Matt; Christian Underwood; Lucy and Felix Averitte; and her great-grandchildren, Layla and Mason Isenhour. Additional survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sarah Simmons, and her two sisters, Nancy Pope and Doris Huffman.

Carolyn retired from Bruard’s Furniture where she was a sewing supervisor for over 40 years. Her retirement years were happily spent with her husband, as well as taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held at First United Methodist Church Newton at 2:00 pm on Saturday July 1st. The family will receive visitors from 1:00-1:45 pm in the Welcome Center of the church. The burial at Eastview Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
