Carroll Eugene Schrum left his earthly home to be with the Lord on January 2, 2019 at the Levine-Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville, NC. He was born in Gaston County on February 20th, 1929 to the late Marvin Howard Schrum and Pinkie Rutledge Schrum. He was preceded in death by his sister Margret Weatherly and three of his brothers Howard, James, and Forest Schrum.
Carroll was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years, Ruth Pasour Schrum; his children, Ron Schrum of Lincolnton, Don Schrum and wife Vickie of Lincolnton, David Schrum and wife Julie of Vale, Cheryl Schrum and Bryan Rader of Maiden, and Susan Sain and husband Robert of Vale. Carroll is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Jennifer Bollinger of Vale and great granddaughter Leia Oglesby, Tim Arrowood of Cherryville, Lindsey Karres and husband James (Cole) of Lincolnton, Amber Cain and husband Samuel of Gastonia and Ashley Schrum of Vale; and his surviving brothers Jake Schrum of Florida, and Ted Schrum of Washington.
Visitation will be held at Daniels Lutheran Church, 3170 Reepsville Rd, Lincolnton on Friday, January 4th, 2019 from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.
Funeral services will be held at Antioch Lutheran Church- 330 Old NC 277 Loop Rd. Dallas on January 5th, 2019 with Rev. George Rhyne officiating. Family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM with the funeral to follow at 3:00 pm in the church sanctuary.
Carroll began his career as a carpenter, building houses in Gaston County. He then worked at Cockers Machine Shop, Ranlo, NC, as a knitter mechanic, at Meadox Medicals in New Jersey assisting with the process of knitting artificial arteries, and eventually retiring from Mohican Mills of Lincolnton.
Carroll enjoyed his time farming and bee keeping. He was also an accomplished wood worker.
He was a founding member of the Agricultural Center Volunteer Fire Department in Dallas. He was a member of Antioch Lutheran Church in Dallas where he was a Sunday school teacher and served on the church council. Later in his life, Carroll was an associate member of Daniels Lutheran Church in Lincolnton.
