Charles Carr, aged 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, after a short illness in Hickory NC.
Born in Erie, Pa to Reid and Grace Marie Carr, he was a skilled machinist at General Electric for 36 years, a groundskeeper at Lakeside Golf Course for 20 years, and a driver for Peek and Peak Resort.
Charlie also served as the Ripley Town Justice, and coached youth football, youth basketball, and youth soccer in Ripley, NY to at least two generations of kids.
He was scouted in high school for pitching by the Chicago White Sox, and remained an avid athlete throughout his life.
He raised and trained hunting beagles for 30 years and was a life long and conscientious sportsman.
Charlie was also a Vietnam veteran.
He is survived by Brenda (Freligh), his wife of 52 years, and children, Jeri Serbinowski (Paul), Heather
Carr, and Ryan Carr, sister Diana Collins, brother Delbert (Peanut) Carr, 11 grandchildren, 1 great
grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by a sister Harriet Johnston, brothers Gerald and Albert (Tubby), and nephews Phillip Freligh and Ken Collins.
The family would like you to know that Charlie's quiet humor was evident right up to the end. We know many of you thought of him as "Coach", and he was a strong parent figure in your lives. We are confident he will be missed by so many more, who's lives he touched, than we can ever imagine.
