Christopher “Pop-pop” Shannon McGill passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 after he bravely fought a 3 year battle with brain cancer. He was 52.
Chris was born January 29, 1970, in Marshall, Texas. Where he met and married his beloved wife, Tina McGill, and pursued his Masters degree. Together they raised four children before moving to Charlotte, North Carolina. He was a devoted, caring, and intimidatingly smart plant manager at Southwire. He loved his job, his employees, and the company he worked for. Chris worked until the day they sent him home for his own good, just one month before he passed. If it were up to him he would have gone every day until then. He was passionate about golf, while simultaneously loathing it when his performance wasn’t “up to par”. He also loved to fish and travel, and had a palate for good food from all over the world. His cunning sense of humor ensured he got along with everyone he met. Christopher was larger than life in every way and stubborn to a fault. He was a tough man until the granddaughters came around. If you were lucky enough to be loved by Chris, you can be sure he loved you with all his heart and soul. He was honest and tender hearted. He was a gift, and truly one of a kind.
Chris leaves behind his loving wife of 29 years, Tina McGill. He is also survived by his four beloved children, Amanda (Scott) Palomino, Nina Derrick, Taylor (Manda) McGill, and Trevor McGill, his parents Jane and Murry McGill that he adored, three grandchildren that had his heart wrapped around their fingers, his brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Alexy McGill, his nieces Heather and Morgan McGill, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, several “bonus” kids we collected over the years, and one loyal puppy, Xena.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael “Mickey” McGill and both sets of grandparents.
