Conley Smith

Conley Lee Smith 85 of Newton died Saturday July 20th, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born September 26th, 1927 He was the son of the late Elmer Lee Smith and Hattie Prue Smith. A U.S. Army veteran, he worked for Hickory Manufacturing Company for 53 years. He loved wood working and working on his red 55 Ford truck. His wife of 63 years, Helen Aderholdt Smith of the home; a brother, Zim Bertin Smith of Hickory; two sons, Conley Lee Smith, Jr. of Vale and Terry Wayne Smith and wife Teresa of Hickory; a daughter, Trudy Smith Hoyle and husband Dennis of Vale; seven grandchildren, Thad Scronce, Emily Jones, Aleia Lehmons, Skylar Smith, Rylee Smith, Angie Rufty and Shannon Cline; and 10 great grand children survive him. Two brothers, J.D. Smith and David Junior Smith and two sisters, Geneva Dair Smith Eller and Linda Prue Smith Pierson preceded him in death. The funeral will be 3:00 pm Monday July 22nd, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard A. Mazak and Pastor Trent Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #16 of Newton. The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 pm Monday July 22nd, 2013 prior to the service at Grace Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658 or to Grace Lutheran Church 4536 Hickory-Lincolnton Highway, Newton, NC 28658.
