David Estel Dancy, died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born September 26, 1940, he was the son of the late Willie Odell Dancy and Retha Mae Greene Dancy. David worked for Far East Nissan for 22 years, Hickory Auto Exchange for three years and Armstrong Buick for five years. He worked as an announcer and in sales for WHKY Radio, WSPF in Granite Falls and WSOC in Charlotte, as a camera man in the early years. He enjoyed golf and gardening and was a U.S. Army veteran. David was a loving husband, father and grand-father and very active and committed to his church. He was a Bishop in the LDS church for five years. In addition to his wife of 45 years, Linda Ann Ball Dancy of the home; four daughters, Lisa Dancy Blalock and husband Jeffrey of Valdese, Cherie Dawn Dancy of Hickory, Andrea Leigh Dancy of Newton and Brooke Dancy Starnes of Taylorsville; four sons, Mark Kevin Dancy and wife Kellie of Hickory, Chad Edward Dancy of Hickory, Brad Phillip Dancy and wife Renee of Conover and Michael David Dancy and wife Marissa of Winston Salem; a brother, Jimmy Dancy and wife Ginger of Rutherfordton, NC; and 11 grand-children survive him. The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3, 2011 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Hwy 127, Hickory. Bishop Mike Woods will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the church. Burial will follow at the LDS Cemetery in Wilkes County.
