John David Dowell, 79, of Newton died Thursday January 5, 2023 at Carolina Caring Hospice House in Newton, NC.
David, born November 17,1943, was the son of the late Collie Mae Childress Dowell. He was a graduate of Hildebran High School class of 1963 and a member of St Paul Lutheran Church Startown, ELCA.
David Dowell owned and operated Dowell Craft Furniture, Conover Chair and Mr. Velvet Car Care. He was well respected in the furniture industry throughout his fifty year career.
David was married to Rebecca Chester Dowell for 58 years. They have two children, Nathan Dowell (Kim) of Hickory and Jennifer Dowell (Sean Drum) of Newton. They have two granddaughters, Kaylee Dowell Ehart (Cooper), Abigail Dowell and a step grandson, Logan Drum. David was very proud of his grandchildren. He loved supporting their athletic and other endeavors.
David was preceded in death by his seven brothers and sisters (Christine Dowell Carswell, Mattie Lee Dowell Powell, CJ Dowell, Clay Dowell, Jessie Dowell, Betty Dowell Maynard and Benjamin Dowell.
A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Hickory, NC on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 2:00pm, with Rev. Ralph Kraft, of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
