David Townsley

March 7, 1926 — October 17, 2023

David Wallace Townsley was born in Seattle, Washington on March 7, 1926 to Arthur Townsley and Eva Blatchford Townsley. He left his life on October 17, 2023 in Newton, North Carolina where he lived for the last 7 years. Prior to that, Dave had been a long-term resident of Beavercreek, Ohio where he and his wife, Mary Castor Townsley raised a family.

David was inducted into the Army during WWll where he served in combat and subsequently received the bronze star. That chapter behind him, Dave took advantage of the GI Bill and completed a degree in mechanical engineering from Montana State University. He took a job working on flight simulators at Wright Patterson Air Force Base where he worked as a civilian for the next 35 years.

Not long after beginning his career, Dave met and subsequently married Mary Caster who became his cherished life-long companion. They had the sort of relationship that others would reference when describing a good marriage. For his part, he was a kind, considerate and devoted husband. When he retired, he set up a workshop and began designing and building furniture all of which have become family treasures.

Throughout his life he enjoyed photographing nature, camping in the mountains and long road trips west. It was in the mountains that he was happiest and he delighted in hiking and enjoying both grand vistas and the minutiae of the natural world.

Dave's greatest strength, however, was his character. A kind, quiet man with a sense of humor, he was honest, loyal, and had a grip on integrity that was tenacious. He rarely talked about himself but was an astute observer of others and of the world around him. He was devoted to his family and loved by them in return.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; Arthur Townsley and Eva Blatchford Townsley, his wife, Mary Castor Townsley, and a grandson Rohan Townsley. He is survived by his children; Janet Townsley (Ed Levi) of Fayetteville, AR, Michael Townsley (Lynne Ross) of Vale, NC, and Russell Townsley (Rakhshi Khan) of Davis, CA. He is survived by four grandchildren; Crystal Chevalley of Fayetteville, AR, AAron Chevalley of Caete, Brazil, Samir Townsley of Davis, CA and Riyan Townsley of Davis, CA.

His ashes will be scattered somewhere beautiful in the mountains.
