Donald Hoyle

June 28, 1944 — January 30, 2020

Donald Ulysses Hoyle, Jr. age 75 of Tin Mine Road in Lincolnton passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2020. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7th at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery on Wesley Chapel Road in Catawba County.

Donald was born June 28, 1944 in Lincolnton to the late Donald Ulysses Hoyle, Sr. and Mamie Poteat Hoyle. He was a graduate of Lincolnton High School, Catawba Valley Community College, majoring in Furniture Production and Kansas State University's Standard Oil of New Jersey Management Program.

He served with honor in the United States Army serving in Vietnam in the 25th Infantry Division at Chu Chi, South Vietnam and in the 1968 Tet Offensive. He was awarded the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, and the Army Commendation Medal. He worked his entire career in furniture manufacturing and as a furniture plant owner. His hobbies were owning and rebuilding classic automobiles. He was an avid Nascar fan and NFL fan. He also enjoyed restoring fine antique furniture. He loved his many animals especially his loyal dog, Minnie.

He was preceded in death by brother Carrol William Hoyle and sisters Clara Hoyle Conner, Ruby Hoyle Crump, Wanda Hoyle Lee, and Murel Hoyle Canipe. He is survived by a brother Kenneth Ray Hoyle and wife Louella Hoyle, son Donald Michael Hoyle of Lincolnton, daughter Jennifer Hoyle Vincett and husband Matthew Vincett of Rockingham, two grandchildren Henry Michael Vincett and Cynthia Louise Vincett, a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Dr., Lincolnton, NC 28092.
