Doras Edward Elmore, 92, of Taylorsville died Saturday, December 2, 2023 peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Born March 29, 1931, he was the son of the late Dorris Effrim Elmore and Lois Hurley Elmore.
Doras served in the United States Navy from January 1951 through November 1954 receiving a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Medal.
He was an avid golfer and he loved all sports. Mr. Elmore retired from Shuford Mills after 38 years as a supervisor. He was the janitor at the Highland Elementary School so he could be active in his children's lives. He worked three jobs so his wife could stay home and care for the family. He was a jokester but could be very serious when he needed to be. He loved the Lord from a child and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Doras never met a stranger and in his church he was the "Candy Man".
Doras is proceeded in death by loving wife of 64 years, Dimple; his parents, four sisters, Amy, Mary, Jane, and Grace, one brother Jack, two grandsons Craig Bruce, Jr. and Joseph Michael Duckett.
Those left to cherish his memory are his five children; Pam Hamlin (George) of Taylorsville, Sheila Elmore of the home, Edwin Elmore (Jeannie) of Granite Falls, Bradley Elmore (Crystal) of Granite Falls, and Beth Crissman (Lee) of Maiden. 42 grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 11am-1pm at Grace Baptist Church, 627 Rink Dam Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
Funeral Service will be at 1pm Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Bumgarner officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. .
Pallbearers: Garrett Helton, Gary Helton, Daniel Duke, Eric Elmore, Andrew Duckett, Nathaniel Gragg, Luke Gragg, and Jacob Gragg.
