Doris Caldwell Frindt, 87, of Newton, died Friday, December 29, 2023, at The Pavilion Health Center at Brightmore in Charlotte. Born October 23, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Jefferson Woodrow McRee and Madge Smith McRee.
She was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Reformed Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, member of the Consistory, Women’s Guild, Mission’s Team, Young at Heart, Restoration of the Historical Church Building and choir. She retired as a teacher’s assistant at Startown Elementary School. Prior to that she worked at Conover School. She was a member of the first graduating class of Fred T. Foard High School where she excelled playing basketball. She enjoyed playing, coaching and watching sports. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Kevin Caldwell and wife Robin of Newton, a daughter, Kara Jones and husband Scott of Fort Mill, SC, two sisters, Janice Wilfong of Wilmington and Kay Wagner of Newton, and Gwen McRee, her sister-in-law that was just as close as a sister. She was “Mamaw” to her four grandchildren, Tori Goodmon and husband Josh of Kernersville, Kelsey Caldwell and fiancé Thomas Hilton of Walkertown, Joshua Jones and wife Monique of Houston, Texas, Rachel Willis and husband David of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jefferson Woodrow and Madge Smith McRee, she is preceded in death by her husband J.D. Caldwell, two sisters, Johnsie Abernethy and JoAnne Beard, and brother Donald McRee.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at the Pavilion at Brightmore for their love and care for Mom as she went through the final stages of her life.
The funeral will be at 2 PM on Friday, January 5th at St. Paul’s Reformed Church in Startown with the Rev Dr. Rob Helton officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at 1PM to 1:45PM before the service on Friday, January 5th at St. Paul’s Reformed Church.
