Dorothy Herman

Dorothy Helms Herman 74 of Newton, went to be with the Lord on June 19th, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born September 26th, 1938, she was the daughter of the late William Grady Helms and Tollie Bernice Helms. She retired from Wesley Hall Furniture in 2003 and was a born-again Christian who was devoted to the Lord. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and spending time with her family and friends. She never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting new people. In addition to her husband, Paul of 54 years, a daughter, Sandy Church and husband Rev. William of Hickory; a son, Rick Herman and wife Debra of Newton; two grandsons, Aaron Herman of Newton and Nick Church of Hickory; two step grandsons, Mike Mitchell of Newton and Matt Mitchell of Fort Bragg; six sisters, Lucille Lail of Statesville, Alma Prue Gales of Lincolnton, Lois Beal and husband Edgar of Sanford, Barbara Aasness of Charlotte, Elsie Herman of Hickory and Shirley Finney and husband Jerry of Conover; two brothers, Conley Helms of Hickory and Ervin Helms and wife Coleen of Charlotte; a sister-in-law, Betty Helms of Lawndale and many nieces and nephews survive her. In addition to her parents, a brother Edward Helms preceded her in death. The funeral will be 12:00 pm Saturday June 22, 2013 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. John Setzer and Mr. Stan Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Jenkins Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm, Saturday June 22, 2013 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers include Aaron Herman, Nick Church, Alton Lackey, Andrew Lackey, Bryan Wilfong and Chuck Wilfong. Memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice 3975 Robinson Road Newton, NC 28658.
