Douglas Robert Fraley, 58, of Vale, went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 11, 2015 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Doug was born July 6, 1956 in Monterey County, California to Robert Fraley and Betty Carter Knox. Doug was a member of Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church in Newton.
In 1976, Doug enlisted in the United States Air Force, served overseas in Okinawa and was honorably discharged in 1978. For the last 29 years Doug has worked for Renwood Mills (formerly Mid-State Mills) in their maintenance department. He loved his job and the people with whom he worked. He was also a member of Riverside Masonic Lodge No. 606 in Catawba, where he had the honor of serving as Grand Master. Ham Day was such a special time for Doug as he enjoyed serving and socializing with the community, helping to raise money for the Masonic Home for Children.
He was preceded in death by his nephew Caleb Knox. Left to cherish his memory is his mother Betty Carter Knox of Newton; two sisters Lisa Penley and husband Steve of Newton; Lori Baker and husband Ronnie of Lincolnton; brother Tommy Knox and wife Blair of Denver; nephew Morgan Lane and wife Sara of Newton, niece Hallie Knox of Denver; best friend Cliff Renfro, beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, May 23 at Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church in Newton with Pastor Faye Herbin officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug's honor directly to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
