Douglas Leatherman

March 27, 1969 — August 18, 2017

Douglas Dean Leatherman, 48, of Hickory, got to journey to heaven before the rest of us on Friday, August 18th, 2017 at Catawba Regional Hospice.  Born March 27th, 1969, he was abeloved son of Marvin and Brenda Bell Leatherman.  Growing up, Doug was a student athlete graduating from Bandy’s High School in 1987, and then received his bachelor’s degree from UNC-Charlotte in 1992.  Professionally, Doug held management positions with several furniture factories before settling into his sales role with Pacific Coast Feather Cushion Company (now Hollander).  Personally, for most of his life he was an avid golfer and general sports enthusiast.  Doug served for a time as a volunteer leader in the local Young Life club and committee, was extremely active in all sports in which his children played, as well as involved in his local church family.  He was a follower of Christ, dedicated family man, an adventure seeker, a ‘bigger than life’ personality, and a fiercely loyal friend. In addition to his wife of 21 years, Anissa Stafford Leatherman, Doug was blessed with his son, Brady Hugh Leatherman (16) and his daughter, Carter Grace Leatherman (14).  Other close family members include his sister, Abby Leatherman Lanes and husband Ted, along with their children Izzie and Jackie of California; his younger brother Nelson Leatherman and wife Angie, with their children Noah and Chloe of Catawba; his mother and father-in-law Keith and Jan Stafford of Hickory; a brother and sister-in-law Mark and Jennifer Stafford and their children Meagan, Madeline, Makenna, and Andrew; many other aunts, uncles, other family members and special friends whom we also consider as part of our family. A Celebration Service honoring Doug’s life will begin at 6:00 on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017 at Corinth Reformed Church in Hickory.  Pastors Bob Thompson and Paul Cummings will officiate, and doors will open in the main sanctuary at 5:15 for seating, singing, and a series of photos of Doug’s life.  As a way to honor Doug we ask you to wear the color BLUE which was his favorite color, and is the colorrepresentative of colon cancer.  There will be a gathering of friends immediately after the service in Bost Hall. Rather than flowers, please consider memorials to any one of the three organizations below, all of which Doug passionately supported during his life: Catawba Valley Aquatic Club – Mail donation checks to 475 26th Ave NE, Unit E, Hickory NC 28601; Contact Coach Paul Schiffel at coachpaul@cvacswimming.org or 828-256-6600 Carolina Select Volleyball Club – Mail donation checks to Carolina Select Volleyball Club (or CSVC) P.O.
