Eleanora (Ellie) Pauline Rudolph Barker, 89, of Newton went to be with her Lord January 18, 2018 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born in Tell City, Indiana November 13, 1928, she was the daughter of the late George Rudolph and Elizabeth Hess Rudolph. Ellie married the late Roger Barker in 1953 and had five children. Prior to her marriage, Ellie attended college and worked for General Electric. She left GE to raise her family but kept busy with reading, dancing and many sports, even winning several golf tournaments. Ellie was an active member of the Hot Springs Village Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church while she lived in Arkansas. She spent many hours volunteering at church and her children's schools. Her passions were working with the Special Olympics and teaching Junior Golfers.
Ellie is preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Betty Werner, son-in-law, Pete Shinn, and her parents. Survivors include five children: Rebecca Bennett (Daughter), Rosalyn Barker (Daughter), Kevin (Susan) Barker (Son), Kerry (Maria) Barker (Son) and Rochelle Shinn (Daughter), 9 grandchildren: Alexis, Matthew, Roger, Rachel, Kelsey, Nicole, Joseph, Alicia and Brian, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Ellie moved into Abernethy Laurels in September 2016 and was blessed with many new friendships. She lived her life full of joy and optimism, often teasing those around her and always had a smile. Ellie also enjoyed baking for her friends and family, treating them to lemon bars or Christmas cookies (and if anyone has that lemon bar recipe, please hand it over!)
