Elsie Withers

Elsie Augusta Jenkins Withers, 93 of Newton died Saturday, July 1st, 2017 at her residence.  Born March 28th, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Farrell Early Jenkins and Ada  Parker Jenkins. She was a member and a longtime choir member and Sunday school teacher at East Maiden Baptist Church.  She enjoyed reading and gardening. She was a real green thumb especially raising flowers. Two daughters, Brenda Withers Groce and husband Mike of Newton and Sharon Withers Rhodes and husband David of Draper, VA; five sisters, Polly Moose of Newton, Margie Sigmon of Conover, Kathleen Throneburg of Newton, Irene Smith of Newton, Gail Mann of Charlotte; brothers, David Jenkins and wife Doris of Maiden, Calvin Jenkins and wife Becky of Newton and Roger Jenkins and wife Carol of Lincolnton; two grandchildren, Michele Groce Gibson and husband Gregg of Maiden and Brian Groce and wife Gwen of Campobello, SC; great grandchildren, Kayla and Kari Gibson of Maiden, Michael, Braedon, Kohlten, Ashlinn, Elyanah Groce of Campobello, SC survive her. Her husband, Ray Withers; a brother, Farrell E. Jenkins, Jr. and a sister, Rachel Carter preceded her in death. The funeral will be 4:00 pm Wednesday, July 5th, 2017 at East Maiden Baptist Church with Pastor Nathaniel Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Maiden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30-4:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 5th, 2017 at the church.   The grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to East Maiden Baptist Church P.O.
