Ervin Chester

Ervin Lewis Chester, 73, of Golf Rd., Conover died Wednesday August 8, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Born September 9, 1938 in Burke County, he was the son of the late Robie Lawrence and Mary Emma Whisnant Chester. A member of Discovery Church, he was a traffic manager for 15 years with Pilot Freight and many other years with Standard Trucking. He also worked with Southern Furniture for 10 years and the Jewelry Exchange for 35 years. Three sisters; Jean Calvin and husband Luther of Morganton, Iris Fox and husband Eugene of Morganton and Lillie Bennett of Colonial Heights, VA; a brother R.L. Chester and wife Helen of Morganton; sisters-in-law, Helen Chester and Ruby Chester both of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews survive him. A brother Roy Chester, a sister Mary Ellen Fox and a dear friend, Jim Miller preceded him in death. The funeral will be 2:00 pm Saturday August 11, 2012 at the chapel of Jenkins Funeral Home with Pastors Smith Sharp and Earl Fincher officiating. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park in Morganton. Pallbearers include Seth Bristol, Cory Bristol, Roger Chester, Brad Bennett, Jason Taylor and Percy Jones. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Humane Society of Catawba County, 3224 20th Ave SE, Hickory, NC 28602.
