Essie Idella Grass, of Denver, NC, passed away peacefully after a short illness on January 19, 2023 at Springs of Catawba in Hickory, NC.
Essie was born to the late Frederick T. Serijanian and Oma Morris Serijanian on October 12, 1937 in Worcester, MA. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her infant sister, Oma Mae Serijanian, her first husband, Donald J. Zimmermann, her second husband, Duane G. Grass, Sr., and her daughter, Melanie Rosa Grass.
A homemaker, a health care worker, and a loving mother, Essie loved telling jokes, drawing cartoon characters, singing with her family, watching scary movies and detective shows. She enjoyed being around her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren during the holidays. She especially loved her fur baby, Mollie.
She is survived by her children, Carol A. Zimmermann and Debbie Zimmermann Czerniak of Chicopee, MA, and David (Melanie) Zimmermann, Sr. of Hickory, NC; her sisters, June (Paul) Laporte and Gloria (Wells) Whitney, both of MA; her grandchildren, Brian Lambert of Denver, NC; Matthew Czerniak and Sarah Czerniak of MA; David Zimmermann, Jr and Corey Zimmermann of Denver, NC; Catie (Justin) Lawson, of Hickory, NC; Lauren Huffman, of Gastonia, NC; Haley (Casey) Bentley, of Lenoir, NC, Sallie (Johnny) Arias, of Sterling, VA; and Maurissa (Nathan) Kish, of Winston-Salem, NC. She is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and step-children.
No services will be held at this time. The family will hold a private ceremony for Essie in the spring. Her ashes will be inurned with her mother and father at Hope Cemetery in Worcester, MA.
