Biography Essie Beatrice Hammond Little, 86 of Rocky Ford Road, Newton died Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Born February 3, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Samuel Jones Hammond & Willie Cureton Hammond. Good Momma Essie was a gospel singer who was a part of a five generation family. She was a member of the Usher board and Senior Choir at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hickory. She was also a founder of the Junior Choir at the church. Essie was a volunteer for the Rev. Lester Mae Clark Children & Parents involvement with the Hickory Housing Authority. She dearly loved her children and grand-children. Three daughters, Sandra Little Shade and husband Jimmy of Hickory, Regina Johnson of Hickory and Monice Ussery of Hickory; five sons, Donald Williams of Tacoma Park, MD, Larry Williams of Kissimmee, FL, Kenneth Little and wife Rebecca of Taylorsville, Derrick Little of Hickory and Billy Little of Newton; six nieces; 31 grand-children; 51 great grand-children; and 5 great, great grand-children survive her. The funeral will be 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hickory. The Rev. Lamont Reeves will officiate. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior from 2-3:00 pm, at the church. At other times the family will be at the home on Rocky Ford Road in Newton. Flower girls will be her grand-daughters and pall bearers will be her grand-sons. Memorials may be made to Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road Newton, NC 28658.
