Essie Mae McClain, 73, passed away at her home on Friday, March 25, 2022. Ms. McClain was born in Hickory, North Carolina on November 3, 1948 to the late Sidney Avery McClain and Mary Jessie (Metts). She is survived by her three sons: Elton D. Johnson, Kevin M. Johnson and Michael E. Johnson (Christina). She was deeply devoted to and loved her sons.
Additional surviving family members are sisters, Mary Martha McClain, Rosie Ann Blackwell, Metta Annette Jenkins and brother James Elmore McClain.
In addition to her parents, brothers Robert Lee McClain, Boyce Avery McClain, John Thomas (Tommy) McClain and sister Nancy Jean Corpening preceded her in death.
Ms. McClain loved to cook and managed Kathryn's Cheese House in the Valley Hills Mall for 15 years. She later retired from the ER Carpenter company. Ms. McClain was a participant at Pace@Home and she enjoyed spending time with other participants and staff at Pace. She never met a stranger and was quick to say "I love you" to everyone she met.
Ms. McClain was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and was devoted to her faith. There will be no service. In place of flowers, donations may be made to Jehovah’s Witnesses Worldwide Work at
