Eugene "Gene" Marcus Fulbright age 82, of NC Hwy 10 West in Hickory died Monday, October 29 at Catawba Regional Medical Center.
Born, September 19, 1930, a native of Catawba County, he was the son of the late George Washington Fulbright and Laura Alice Fulbright Whitener. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. A Purple Heart Recipient, he served during the Korean Conflict. He was a Loving God-Fearing husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law. Gene was employed with Hickory Chair as a Purchasing Agent for 31 years. He was a Founding Member of Propst Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department.
His wife, Nellie Jean Fulbright of the home, a daughter, Tina Fulbright Holler, of Conover, two sons, Michael Eugene Fulbright and wife Dianne of Vale and Kelly Marcus Fulbright and wife Cindy of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two sisters, Joann Whitener and husband Alfred and Ferne Baker, both of Hickory; six grandchildren William Holler of Raleigh, Laura Holler of Mocksville, Joezell Fulbright of Vale, Andrew Fulbright, Sarah Fulbright and Patrick Fulbright all of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews survive him.
Six brothers; two sisters, and his step-father, Perry Whitener preceded him in death.
The funeral will be held Friday, November 2, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Sardis Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. Anna Merritt and Rev. Geary Walton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 1:30 to 2:45 pm Friday, November 2 at Sardis Evangelical Lutheran Church.
In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be made to American Lung Association or to Sardis Evangelical Lutheran Church 6103 NC Hwy 10 West Hickory, NC 28602 or to Blackburn Baptist Church 5105 NC Hwy 10 West, Hickory, NC 28602.
