Floid (Floyd) Phillips

June 12, 1938 — August 21, 2022

Floid (Floyd) White Phillips of Catawba, NC departed this life on August 21, 2022, at his
home surrounded by his wife and family. Loved by many, in the home he was
affectionately called, We Daddy, Deddy, Paw Paw, Grandpa, and Uncle and Mister
Floyd.
Born on June 12, 1938, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late John F. Fleming
and Beatrice Phillips Gibbs. Floyd was a long time and faithful member of Rose of
Sharon Holiness Church of the First Born, and City of Praise, Inc. where he served as
Deacon, Trustee, and Chef for near 50 years. He was the part owner of RhinePhil
Catering, Celebrations, and Elect Lady Hair Salon. He was employed at Conover
Nursing and Rehab Center (2003-2020), Broyhill Furniture (1970’s-2002), and Albert L
Bolick Sand & Gravel Company.
His formative years in education occurred with Catawba Rosenwald School. Preceded
in death is his first wife, Polly Margaret Phillips; siblings, Theodis (Red) Phillips, Jimmy,
Frank and Charles (Ernest) Gibbs, and George (Bootsie) Millers; sons, Larry V. Phillips
and Bobby E. Hunt, Jr.
He was wedded on April 5, 1980, to Jeanette Barr Phillips. He leaves to cherish fond
memories with his siblings: Ella Jane England of Newton, Janice Gibbs of Salisbury,
and Ricky Nelson Gibbs of Statesville. His children: Kay Frances Huff of Salisbury, NC;
Johnnie A. (Rachel) Phillips of Hickory, NC; Ricky B. (Wanda) Beatty Phillips of
Statesville, NC; Sylvia A. Barber Phillips of Salisbury, NC; Floyd W. Phillips, Jr. of
Catawba, NC; Sibling, requested to be unlisted; Thomas W. (Tamara) Phillips of
Conover, NC; Terry L Phillips of Winston-Salem, NC; Sterling E. (Glenda) Phillips of
Newton, NC; and Presley A. Barr of Catawba, NC.
Others raised as family in the home: Lora Hunt, Donald Hunt, Michael Deal, Ricky Deal,
Anthony Phillips, and Travis Reid. He leaves a host of nieces and nephews, grands,
cousins, other relatives and friends. He was a father to many outside of the home and
will be remembered as a covetous cook at family reunions in Rock Hill, SC and
Salisbury, NC, to the campground communities including McKenzie’s Grove, Tuckers,
and Mott’s Grove.
