Frederick Pender

Rev. Frederick Dale Pender 67, of Hickory died Tuesday, February 11th, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born July 11th, 1946, he was the son of the late Helen Beatrice Walters Pender and Clark Herbert Pender. He graduated from Whittier HS in 1964. He served in the US Army in the 8th Army United Nations Command Headquarters in Seoul Korea from 1967-73. He attended California Christian University from 2001-2003 where he obtained both a Bachelor of Theology in Pastoral Ministry and a Doctorate of Theology in Biblical Counseling. He held licenses as a Minister and Dr. of Biblical Counseling for the California State Board of Pneumiatric Examiners. Later in life he served as Bereavement and Volunteer Coordinator, Prison Minister, Grief Counselor, Director of Spiritual Care and Supervising Hospice Chaplain and he was a friend to all he met. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Elenor "Ginger" Brooks Odom Pender; a daughter, Kathleen Suzzanne Kilgore of Riverside, CA; three sons, Terry Michael Tatum of Sandy, UT, Kurtis Allen Tatum of Prescott, AZ and James Edward Tatum of Bethlehem, NC; a sister, Ardis Mae Tekip of La Mirada, CA; 12 grand-children; and 15 great grand-children. The Memorial Service and Celebration of Fred's life will be 5:00pm Tuesday February 18th, 2014 at Lakeview Baptist Church with Pastor Neil Bowman officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-5:00pm prior to the service at the church A meal in Fred's memory will follow immediately after the service in the Hebrew Cafe at the Church.
