Gary Canipe

Gary Thomas Canipe, 66, of Lincolnton passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at his residence. He was born Thursday, June 23rd, 1955 in Catawba, NC.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Shelbie Jean Canipe, wife of 46 years, Diane Canipe.
Sons: Allan Canipe (Kathy), Rusty Canipe, Mickey Canipe (Jessica), Rickey Canipe (Autumn).
Grandchildren: Nick Lail, Montana, Anthony, Gavin, and Chase Canipe.
Siblings: Randy Canipe (Becky), Debbie Trivette, Glenda Canipe, Dexter Canipe (Patty), Ronnie Canipe, Timmy Canipe (Paulette), Cathy Buchanan (Steve), and Crystal Canipe, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary is preceded in death by his father, Glenn Thomas Canipe, and his beloved dog, Snoop.
Gary, also known by his trucker handle as "Day Late", was a very kind man. Gary worked in trucking for over 40 years. He would do anything to help someone out. There are many stories of Gary's selfless acts. One time he returned from a trucking trip with two parrots he had bought to help out someone in need of money. He often helped his neighbors out by servicing their lawn equipment, fixing lawn mowers and such. He loved to tinker and fix things. When his boys became teenagers, he bought them a racecar. Gary said if they had a racecar to keep them busy they would stay out of trouble and he knew they would be safe. This race team kept a lot of the local neighbor boys busy and their parents were grateful for it. Gary loved his grandchildren most of all and was thrilled to spend time with them. Gary was very present in the lives of his family and they treasure many memories. Gary left a legacy behind and very big shoes to fill.
The funeral will be Saturday December 18, 2021 1:00 pm at St. John's Lutheran church of Conover located at 2126 St Johns Church Rd NE, Conover, NC 28613. Receiving of visitors will be 12:00 pm prior to service.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.
Jenkins Funeral Home staff is not involved in the memorial service at the church.
