Gary Vandenburg

Gary Wayne Vandenburg, 56, of Hickory, NC, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Born on August 29, 1966 in Hickory, he was the son of Tony Ray Vandenburg and Dorothy Marie Whitener Vandenburg.

Gary attended Fred T. Foard High School. He worked with his family's business installing and repairing HVAC systems. He was a certified service technician. He is also remembered as a "Jack of all trades" who could fix anything.

Two of his favorite pastimes were boating and fishing on Lake Hickory. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding for many years and loved to watch professional football with friends. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. Friends say what they remember most about him is that he was always smiling.

Gary was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy, and his brother, Donnie Lee. He is survived by his father, Tony; his uncles Danny Whitener (Pam) and Paul Whitener; aunts Julia Hefner (Donald), Rolaine Vandenburg, Amy Buff (Roger), and numerous cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM followed by the memorial service at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 21st at Jenkins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lifepoint Church, 2123 5th Street NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
