Gerald McElrath-â??Macâ?, 81 of Wilma Sigmon Road, Lincolnton NC died Friday, September 18, 2009 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. Born December 6, 1927 in Knoxville, TN to the late Reid L. & Frances Lee Hollified McElrath. Gerald served with the U.S. Army for 2 years after moving to Charlotte in 1951. He was a truck driver with Roadway Express for 33 years. His CB handle was â??Walking Caneâ?. He enjoyed Nascar and fishing but his greatest love came from his grandchildren & great-grandchildren. His loving wife of 60 years, Mildred Etter Shook McElrath; a brother, Jackie of Fletcher, NC; a daughter Linda Locklear & husband James Ray of Red Springs, NC; a son, Robert McElrath and wife Nancy of Lincolnton, NC; a stepson Ronald Shook and wife Mary of Waynesville, NC; 4 grandchildren, Janice Hutto & husband Philip of Stanley, NC, Ryan McElrath of Lincolnton, NC, Steve Shook of Waynesville, NC & Barbara Shook of Waynesville, NC and five great-grandchildren, Dylan, Garrett, Kaylee Hutto of Stanley, NC and Anthony, Lacy, Shook of Waynesville, NC survive him.  A brother, Eugene McElrath and two sisters, Isabell McCarthy & Joan Robinson preceded him in death. A Celebration of Macâ??s life will be held 12:00 noon, Friday, September 25, 2009 at N.C. State Veteranâ??s Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
