Glenn Layne

January 2, 1943 — November 11, 2017

Glenn Lee Layne, Jr., 74, of Conover, NC passed away Saturday, November 11th, 2017 at his home. Born January 2nd, 1943 he was the son of the late Glenn Lee Layne, Sr and Anna Mae Cooner Layne.  Glenn was born in Jacksonville Florida before moving to Georgia, then ultimately to Connecticut where he remained until his retirement, upon where he moved to what he would always call “back home”, the South, to North Carolina.  In addition to his wife of 48 years, Joan Mikalonis Layne; a son, Shawn Layne and his wife Mary of Enfield CT, a daughter Deanna Layne of Enfield, CT; five grandchildren, Randy Layne, Nicholas Layne, Jeremy Layne, Haily Layne, Haley Desaulniers and a great grandchild Alex Chase, survives him. He also leaves a brother, Tom Harden of Fernandina Beach, Florida.   Glenn was employed many years by Terry Steam Turbine, his second family, as a machinist, until his retirement. Glenn proudly served for the US Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam war. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed competition skeet shooting, hunting and served as Boy Scout Leader; troop 93 and 108 of Enfield CT for over a decade. He was involved in BMX racing with both his children and loved fixing and installing towers for CB/HAM radios in his side business. Glenn was always there, at any given time, to help the local kids when it came to repairing their bikes, motorcycles, cars, or whatever needed fixing.   A Celebration of life will be planned at a later date.  Please sign the online guestbook at www.jenkinsfuneralhome.net.
