Glenn Schronce

August 21, 1936 — November 5, 2016

Glenn Donald Schronce Sr., 80 of Maiden, NC, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton. His family experienced an eight-year “long goodbye” due to Lewy Body Dementia. Glenn was a native of Maiden, born August 21, 1936, to the late Melvin and Ocie Schronce. He served in the Marine Corps 1953-1957 and retired from General Electric of Hickory. In 1955, Glenn married Betty Rumfelt Schronce, and they were blissfully married 61 years. They delighted in parenthood as they reared their son. Anyone who knew Glenn knew of his deep love and devotion to his wife. He was a model husband; he cherished and appreciated his wife, modeling how to be a faithful, loving husband. As a father, Glenn valued honesty and successfully encouraged his son to pursue a college education and professional career. As a grandfather who adored his two granddaughters, Glenn cherished his time with them as they solved jigsaw puzzles, played checkers, and shared hearty laughter when he told stories. For almost 50 years, he and his wife made their home in Marion, NC, and in 2005, they relocated to Maiden, NC. In his spare time, Glenn enjoyed spending time on the golf course as a serious competitor on the greens. He also had a good time whenever he tinkered on his old VW bugs. Glenn is survived by his wife, Betty Rumfelt Schronce; his son, Glenn Donald Schronce, Jr. and his wife Donna of Maiden, NC; his two granddaughters Andrea Jane Sinclair and her husband Matthew of Nashville, TN, and Mary Katherine Fish and her husband Dalton of Maiden, NC; his sister Shirley Schronce Angel; and his brother Richard “Bud” Schronce and his wife Barbara. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Jack and Leonard “Crick” Schronce, and his sister Linda “Babe” Schronce Houston. Glenn accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior and attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Glenn’s wife and family have solace knowing they will be reunited with him in heaven. The funeral will be 3:00pm Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Maiden with Pastor Fred Thompson officiating. The burial will follow at the church cemetery. Please sign the online guestbook at www.jenkinsfuneralhome.net. The Schronce family has entrusted arrangements to Jenkins Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Newton 828-464-1555.
