Grady Costner

Grady Allen Costner 66 of Hickory died Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at his residence. Born September 2nd, 1951 he was the son of the late David Costner and Naomi Goodwin Costner. He retired from Shurtape where he was a third shift supervisor. He was a 28 year veteran of the US Army receiving the Army Commodation Award, Vietnam service medal and the Bronze Star. He served 10 years active Army and 18 years with the National Guard. He was Hickory's number one Avon salesman.  His wife Sarah B. Costner of the home; two daughters, Kathleen Costner and husband Jamie Lail of Vale and Tina Young and husband David of Newton; a son, James Costner and wife Lori of Connelly Springs; a brother, Michael E. Costner and wife Lori of Hickory and a step daughter, Amy Whittington of Charlotte; his mother-in-law, Wilma Wilson Brittain of Hickory; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews survive him. A sister, Sandra Harris and a brother, David L. Costner preceded him in death. The funeral will be 2:00pm Friday, January 12th, 2018 at West Hickory Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Frady officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.   Memorials may be made to West Hickory Baptist Church 40 12th Street NW Hickory, NC 28601 or to the West Hickory VIP Lion's Club c/o Camp Dogwood 7062 Camp Dogwood Drive, Sherrill's Ford, NC 28673.
