Gregory ?Greg? Francis Benjock, 77 of Hickory died Friday, January 16, 2015 at Trinity Village. Born January 10, 1938 in South Heights, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Frank and Anne Dudash Benjock. Greg earned his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and holds two U.S. patents for fiber technology design. He spent 34 years in engineering management and research at Celanese Corporation. He represented Celanese internationally. Upon retirement, he taught math at Charlotte Catholic High School and volunteered at church and in the community with the Knights of Columbus. He was a world traveler and a help to anyone who needed a hand. His lifelong passion was refurbishing cars and fixing watches. It?s estimated that he repaired 100 cars and 1,000 watches over his lifetime. Greg?s strength was his tenacity and persistence. He was an inspiration to all who saw his comeback from a serious stroke 35 years ago to regain his life and career. He never let his handicap define him or hold him back from what was possible. His motto was ?Do the job right the first time.? His beloved wife of 26 years, Barbara Werntz Benjock of the home; three sons, Greg Benjock and his wife Joyce of Mount Pleasant, SC, David Benjock and his wife Carol of Summerville, SC and Chris Benjock and wife Angie of Concord, NC; two step-daughters, Angela Werntz of Pikeville, KY and Linda Slagle and husband Johnny of Taylorsville; seven treasured grand-children, Joseph & Lydia Benjock, Spencer Wright & Jennifer Benjock, Paul and Hanna Benjock and Mary Rose Slagle; and a sister, Mary Lou McCarthy of Dayton, OH survive him. A brother, Leonard Benjock preceded him in death. A Catholic Memorial Mass will be 11:00am Thursday, January 22, 2014 at St. Aloysius catholic Church in Hickory.
