Águeda Vélez Acevedo

Águeda Vélez Acevedo, 85, of Hickory passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 30, 2022 in her home surrounded by loved ones. Born February 5th, 1937 she was the daughter of the late Ramón Vélez Díaz, and María Acevedo Toro.

She loved working with her hands, especially crocheting, quilting, needlepoint, and sewing. She was very giving and was known to cook for the entire neighborhood. She would make the best fried fish, and fritters of all types.

She is survived by her daughter Lourdes Hill, her son-in-law Jerry Hill, her daughter Marta Rodríguez, her son-in-law José Cruz, her daughter Carmen Y. Chervony, her sister María I. Vélez Acevedo, her brother Santiago Vélez Acevedo, she also raised Jamil J. Cruz and Omar J. Cruz, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Nicolás Vélez Acevedo, William Vélez Acevedo, Lucas Vélez Acevedo, and her sister Elba Ortíz.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 - 11:30 AM Friday, December 2, 2022, at Jenkins Funeral Home.

The funeral will be 11:30 AM Friday, December 2, 2022, at Jenkins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Jenkins Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
