Hazel Burgess

November 17, 1929 — July 2, 2018

Hazel Inez Settlemyre Burgess 88 of Newton passed away Monday, July 2nd, 2018 at Catawba Valley Living at Rock Barn. Born November 17th, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Martin Luther Settlemyre and Violet "Rene" Sigmon Settlemyre. She was a lifelong member of Old St. Paul's Lutheran Church where in past years she was the president of the Lutheran Women. She was a member of the Newton Twirlers Square Dance Club and Compassionate Friends Organization.

Two daughters, Dolores Cook and husband Gary of Dallas, NC and Kimberly Price and husband Phillip of Vale; a son, Michael Burgess and wife Jane of Newton, NC; a daughter-in-law Dianne Burgess of Vale; a sister, Phyllis S. Taylor of Conover, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild survive her.

Her husband Arthur Miller Burgess, a daughter Robin Burgess, a son, Ronald Burgess, a sister, Shirley Settlemyre and two great grandchildren, Payton and Kolby Burgess preceded her in death.

The funeral will be 11:00 am Saturday, July 7th, 2018 at Old St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Sain  officiating. Burial will follow at Old St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 am-10:45 am Saturday, July 7th, 2018 at Old St Paul's Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be made to The Friends of Old St. Paul's Lutheran Church  2035 Old Conover Startown Road Newton, NC 28658.
