Hazel Louise Reed Scott, 82 of Hedrick Street, Newton died Friday, February 04, 2011 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born February 24, 1928 in Dorset, Ohio; she was the daughter of the late William Haskell & Mabel Irene Tuttle Reed. She grew up in Kingsville, Ohio and graduated salutatorian of the “Class of 1946” from Kingsville High School. She attended Moody Bible Institute and Rio Grande College. Louise married her true love “John” on June 3, 1952; one of the happiest days of her life. They raised their family in South Florida where she was a homemaker. She was a long-standing member and pianist at the First Baptist Church of Dania, Florida. After her husband’s retirement, they spent three years canning and gardening between there little trailer in the woods in Kingsville, Ohio and their home in Newton, NC. She was always happy to make another trip as long as they were together. She has been a resident for the past couple of years at Taylorsville House. Her kind, loving spirit and sparkle in those big brown eyes will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. May God bless her and keep her safe in his hands. She is survived by her loving husband John Walter Scott of the home; a daughter, Laurie K. McGee and husband, Patrick McGee of Conover; three sons, Sterling Owen Scott of Wilton Manors, Florida, Alan Walter Scott of Gastonia; Bradley O’Brien Scott of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; a daughter in law, Mrs. Kevin (Deborah) Scott; three sisters, Frances Hatch of Franklin, NC, Jeannette Hinkle of Naples, Florida and Mary Hatch & husband Duane of Kingsville, Ohio; a brother, Raymond D. Reed and wife, Betty of Kingsville, Ohio; five grand-children, Selena Scott, Kelly Scott, Meghan Scott, Kelly Scott, Justin Scott & Brittany Lockard; and two great grand-children, Gianna Scott and Rhylin Scott survive her. In addition to her parents; a son, Kevin D. Scott and four brothers, Johnny Reed, Richard Reed, Robert Reed & Howard Reed; and two sisters, Lillian Stevens and Grace Kotnick preceded her in death. A funeral service will be 1:30 pm Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends a half hour prior from 1:00-1:30 pm at the funeral home.
