Hazel Thomas

Hazel Doris Thomas, 98 of Hickory died Thursday, June 8th, 2017 at Catawba Valley Hospice of Newton. Born August 17th, 1918 she was the daughter of the late William Smith and Pantha James Smith. She was the owner and operator of Highland Bakery. A lifelong active church member. An avid reader, she loved to learn and gain knowledge about people and places and asked about your family when you picked up your cake at Myra K's. A daughter, Myra Goforth of Hickory, a sister; Mabel Phillpotts of Hickory and a grand-daughter, Meta Goforth of Phoenix, AZ survive her. Her first husband, H.N. "Phil"  Phillpotts and her second husband, Kinson Thomas preceded her in death. The funeral will be 3:00 PM Monday June 12, 2017 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jeffrey Rushing and Rev. Bobby Pritchard officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.
