Howard Brown

Howard Wilson Brown of Greenwood, Delaware, formerly of Hedgesville, West Virginia was resting at the home of his daughter in Connelly Springs, NC when he departed this life Sunday, September 19, 2010 to “go fishing” on the Golden Shore. He was 73 years of age. Howard was born July 1, 1937 in the state of Delaware, the son of the late, Victor Messick Brown Sr. & Ellender Jerusha Horsey Brown. He graduated from John Bassett Moore High School in Smyrna, Delaware in 1957 & was employed by General Motors in Martinsburg, WV from April 1968- June, 1992. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose for over 40 years and a lifetime member of the Hedgesville Volunteer Fire Department in Hedgesville, WV. In addition, he was a member of the Delaware Mobile Surf-Fisherman, Inc for numerous years and part of the Army National Guard in Smyrna, Delaware from 1954-1960. A daughter, Alice Halstead & husband Mark of Connelly Springs; three sons, “David” William Brown and wife Debbie of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Ronald Brown of Martinsburg, West Virginia and David “Wayne” Brown & wife Susan of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; a sister, Mary Dutton and husband Roger of Clayton, Delaware; five brothers, Victor Brown Jr. and wife, Betty of Plumerville, Ark., Ernest Brown and wife Karen of Harlinger, Texas, Raymond Brown and wife Barbara of Clayton, Delaware, Leroy Brown and life partner, Stanley McIntyre of Poultney, Vermont and Ronald Brown & wife Shirley of Anderson, California; 16 grand-children; 8 great grand-children and numerous nieces & nephews survive him. His wife of 40 years; Ethelyn C. Brown and two brothers, John “Jack” Horsey & James “Jimmy” Brown preceded him in death. A Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Hoyle Memorial Christian Fellowship Church, 6841 Casar Road Hwy 10, Lawndale, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 South Dupont Highway, Dover, Delaware 19901 (or) Hedgesville Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 135, Hedgesville, W.V. 25427.
