Jack Rhodes Carpenter,87 formerly of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Abernathy Laurels Health Center in Newton, NC.
He was born on December 27, 1927 to John Claude and Ruth Rhodes Carpenter, graduated from Union High School in Vale, NC in 1946. He then graduated from Spencer School of Watchmaking in Spencer, NC in 1946.
Jack moved from Lincolnton, NC, to Johnson City, Tennessee, in 1947, where he worked as a watchmaker at the Jewel Box from 1947 to 1958. He then worked for Sperry-Farrogut Co. In Bristol, Tennessee, from 1958 until retirement (Unisys) in 1987.
Jack is preceeded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Ruth Saylor, who died in 1998, his parents John Claude and Ruth Rhodes Carpenter and a sister, Betty Carpenter Kreamer in 1985.
Jack is survived by four sisters, Mary Carpenter Abernathy, Nancy Carpenter Conner and Jean Elizabeth Carpenter Hester (husband, John), all of Newton, NC and one sister-in-law, Dorothy "Dot" Saylor of Johnson City and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City.
A Graveside Service will be announced and held at Monte Vista Cemetery in the future with Rev. James S. Pollock officiating. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Garden of the Gospels.
