James Paul Adkins, 63 of Village Circle, died Tuesday March 6, 2007 at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born February 16, 1944 in Yancey County he was the son of the late Rev. Eules Grant and Bessie Mae Wheeler Adkins. An avid golfer and a US Army Veteran, for nearly 30 years he was general manager for Larry Smith Toyota. He is survived by a daughter, Jamie Carol Adkins of Long View; four sons, Ken Wilson, James Adkins, II, Kyle Adkins and Jeffery Adkins, all of Hickory; two sisters, Louise Metcalf of Morganton and Wanda Phipps of Mt. Gilead; four brothers, Wayne Adkins and David Adkins both of Forest City, Wade Adkins of Marion and Harold Adkins of Marshall, TX and six grandchildren. In addition to his parents, a sister, Lois Cannon and a brother E.G. Adkins, Jr. preceded him in death. A celebration of Jimâ??s life will be 4:00 p.m. Friday at Blackburn Baptist Church, the Rev. Albert Cannon officiating. Burial will follow at Brookford Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
