James David Dietz Sr., 86, of Hickory died Friday, April 13th, 2018 at Trinity Ridge. Born December 13th, 1931 he was the son of the late Fred Dietz and Eva Mae Martin Dietz. James served in the Army during the Korean War. After leaving the Army, he began work as a self employed truck driver for Dietz Motor Lines, and co - owner of Mountain View Golf Club. James enjoyed Golf, Fishing, playing cards, and telling jokes. In his later years he worked part time helping his son at Viewmont Auto Sales, spending time with his family, friends, and being at the beach.
James is survived by two sons James David Dietz Jr. and wife Deborah of Hickory; Phillip Dietz of Hickory; Two sisters Ruth Edwards of Hickory, Betty Canupp of Hickory; and five grandchildren Justin Dietz, London Dietz, Morgan Dietz Green, Eva Dietz, and Jared Dietz.
He is also survived by a special aunt Sally Lynn and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents; a daughter Lisa Dietz; three brothers Harold, Bill and Darrell Dietz preceded him in death.
The funeral will be 1:30 pm Saturday, April 21st, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Andrew Weisner officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
