James Marion Hawkins, 79, of Newton died Friday, December 25, 2020 at Catawba valley Medical center. Born September 8th, 1941 he was the son of William and Pearl Inman Hawkins Grooms. He was a member at New Jerusalem Baptist Church for nearly 20 years and served in the United States Army.
His daughter, Deann Hawkins Surrette (Alan), two sons, James "Jamie" Hawkins Jr (Sherry) and Ernest "Bobby" Hawkins, two brothers, William "Billy" Hawkins and Eddie Grooms (Susan); special cousin, Joanne Vaughn (Duane) and special brother-in-law and friend, Roger Givens Jr.; granddaughter, Chloe Surrette; puppies, CoCo, Peanut and Princess, and numerous others survive him.
In addition to his parents, his loving wife, Teresa "Terry" Hawkins; a brother, Johnny Grooms and a sister, Evelyn Hickman preceded him in death.
The funeral will be at 12:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church with Rev. Lance Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Jenkins Funeral Home Cemetery.
