James Hensley

James Thomas "Tom" Hensley, 67, of Hickory went home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness Friday, May 12, 2017 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born July 28, 1949 he was the son of the late Dorothy Irene Asherbraner Hensley and Aron Glen Hensley of Newton.  He was a master carpenter and artist. He was a 1967 graduate of Fred T. Foard High School and The Carolina School of Broadcasting. In his early years he was an EMT.  He loved his family and was proud of all their accomplishments.   His wife of 26 years, Geneva B. Hensley of the home; two daughters, Marsel Deal and husband Kevin Scott of Claremont and Penny Louise Hensley of SC; his father, Aron Glen Hensley of Newton; a sister, Glenda Foster and husband Dick of Granite Falls; three brothers, Don Hensley and wife Becky of Denver, NC; Gene Hensley of Hickory and Ray Hensley and wife Pat of Newton and nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive him. The funeral will be 1:00 pm Friday, May 19, 2017 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev.
