James Wilbert Jenkins, 73 of Rolling Lane, Hickory died Saturday, March 10, 2012 at his residence. Born March 14, 1938 in Loudon, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Henry Jenkins and Jessie Elizabeth Oody Jenkins. James worked at GM for 17 ½ years and was a member of Gateway Baptist Church in Newton, where he was a Sunday school teacher. He was an avid music lover and gardener. In addition to his wife, Mary Lou Fuller Jenkins of the home; a son, Donald Lin Jenkins and wife Sherry of Maiden; and three grand-children,Tawny Putman, Stephanie Jenkins, Jessica Jenkins and Derek MCCreary, and three great grand-children, Josh Putman, Caleb Putman and Landon McCreary survive him. Two brothers, Tom and Gene Jenkins; and two sisters, Ellen Brown and Mae Brown preceded him in death. The funeral will be 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. Rev. Chad Warner will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4-5:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2012, one hour prior in the chapel.
