Janet Rose Dority, born September 21, 1935, went to her heavenly Father May 17, 2020. Survived by her loving sister, Cheryl Dority Snyder of Viera, Florida. Janet is preceded in death by her father, Sherrill A. Dority; her mother Ruth Dickerson Dority; and two brothers, Richard S. (Dickie) Dority and Robert J. (Bob) Dority.
Janet was born in Rome, New York with intellectual and development disabilities and epilepsy. As a child, she attended Westmoreland Central School and lived in Stanwix Heights. In 1961 she moved with her parents to Chimney Rock, North Carolina. After her parents passed away she made a loving and caring home at Piedmont Christian Home in High Point, North Carolina. Janet loved her ABC books and enjoyed songs by Gene Autry-especially “You are my Sunshine.” Her life was enriched by the regular visits by her sister (and faithful guardian for more then twenty-five years), often accompanied by one or more of her many nieces and nephews. The photo used to commemorate Janet’s life was carried for many years, with love and pride, by her father.
A special thanks for the wonderful care Janet received at Piedmont Christian Home and Hospice of the Piedmont.
A private service and burial will be held at Lake Lure Baptist Church in Lake Lure, North Carolina at a later date, due to current COVID-19 virus restrictions.
